Happy Birthday News From Nowhere – 10% off everything!

Can you believe it? Liverpool’s very own radical bookstore is 35 tomorrow.

And how appropriate for its birthday to fall on May 1st too!

In fact, so happy are the folks at NfN that they’re slashing prices on everything for the day.

It’s 10% off all books and CD’s.

News for Nowhere stocks my albums too so you can get them that bit cheaper for one day only.

If you’ve never been to News From Nowhere pop in and celebrate. They’re based at 96 Bold Street, Liverpool L1 4HY

Paul Robeson To Sing In Southport!

Well, not quite, but the closest thing you’re going to get to that!

I’ve just heard that the tremendous Tayo Aluko is bringing his Call Mr Robeson show to the Southport Arts Centre on July 23rd.

Call Mr Robeson is the winner of the Angel Award for Artistic Excellence, and Tayo himself was named Best Male Performer at the Brighton Festival Fringe last year.

The life of Paul Robeson is fascinating from a personal and a political standpoint – and nobody does Robeson better than Tayo.

This show will definitely interest those with an interest in history, politics and music.

To mark the day, I’ve uploaded a live recording of Run Patsy Run, which is particularly appropriate.

AFC Liverpool Win The Vodkat Trophy – A Pictorial

A moment of history happened tonight.

AFC Liverpool, the club I founded last year on socialist principles, won our first trophy in our very first season.

If you didn’t hear the official cup final song that I wrote and released last week, then check it out here

In dreadful weather, Dean Thurston scored the winner in a 1-0 victory against Padiham.

It was a nice touch too that on the day after the Hillsborough anniversary, Dean ran to the travelling Kop and kissed not his badge, but the number 96 on the front of his shirt.

Here are a few pictures of the night (thanks to Sharon Latham of Dynamo Photography).

I looked frankly ridiculous for most of the night as I wore my lucky red hat.

I bought it outside the Millenium Stadium in 2001 before the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Arsenal which we won 2-1.

I then took it to Germany with me for the UEFA Cup Final – another victory.

I then saved it for the European Cup Semi Final against Chelsea, and then it travelled with me to the final in Istanbul. More glory!

I didn’t get a ticket to Athens and so inevitably Liverpool lost. No lucky hat – no cup final win.

So if you wonder why I look a bit like Bill and Ben in some of the photos, it was because AFC Liverpool needed my hat.

It remains undefeated!

Well done to Derek and the lads. He has delivered us a trophy within 8 months of our competitive life – an astonishing achievement on the pitch.

Enjoy the pics.

That’s my Mum by the way. She’s pulling a funny face on purpose. Just in case you think that’s how she normally looks haha!

Here’s me with the trophy – and hat attacked hair.

Me with manager Derek Goulding – and the trophy. Two more below to finish off.
