Woody Guthrie Folk Club to launch

8

January 11, 2010

Some news that I hope many of you will be interested in. I am launching a brand new monthly folk club in Liverpool called the Woody Guthrie Folk Club.

I want it to be the place to go for folk music that is fun, exciting, a bit dangerous, and that will make you sit up and take notice.

The launch night is on Thursday 25th February and the venue is Liverpool’s premier real ale pub, the Ship and Mitre on Dale Street (the library/art gallery end).

For more information, check out the website on www.woodyfolk.co.uk.

To keep in touch, join the facebook group at www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=420485810342

Hope to see you there!

Hi Alan a great idea and I hope that it turns out to be all you hope for… Fair play to you.

  4. Great idea. I recall there was a folk club in that pub, but it finished quite a few years ago. I’ll be there when I can, pint pot and guitar in hand.

Oh yes! They have reasonable cider at the Ship & Mitre too. I’ll need that if there’s a sing song. I’ll be there.

  6. Steve says:

Hmm. The place was packed. I couldn’t get in. I suppose that’s a good thing but I had to stay downstairs and drink lots of cider. Ah well….

    Hello Alan

Chatted with Roy Bailey after a Trades Council gig tonight, he told me about your new venture.

In Brighton we’re holding a theme night “Politics and Society’ (tues Nov 1st at Brighton Cellarfolk*) where we hope to encourage people to write new political songs (and find new political/socially aware singers). Roy suggested that clubs doing similar sorts of thing should communicate and keep in touch.

I don’t know how it will come about unless someone sets up a dedicated website (I’m learning how to next year) but would be interested to hear your thoughts.

*Cellarfolk background: started in May 2007 as a song club, by local singer songwriters. Not soecifically political but we have special nights on all sorts of Folky themes – and the occasioional guest

    BW Ian Fyvie.
