Back Our Young Writers For A Mobo

Here’s an easy way to back some outstanding young Liverpool writers for a major award – and it only takes 2 seconds.

My friends at the Writing on the Wall Festival have been in touch with the amazing news that their Liverpool Young Writers Project has been shortlisted for a BeMOBO awarad at this year’s Music of Black Origin Award Ceromony.

The awards are held here in Liverpool on the 20th October.

This achievement is a real testament to the energy and dynamism of the young people and those who work with them, and is also recognition of the group’s commitment to both the future of their communities, and to spoken-word art.

To vote for the Young Writers please visit http://www.mobo.com/voting

You need to register but it honestly only takes a few seconds.

Alun Parry Joins Billy Bragg and Jarvis Cocker

Alun Parry with Billy BraggThose interested in the influence of political music will be keen to get along to Un-convention 12 in Salford over the weekend.

On Sunday 3rd October at 10am, I’ll be appearing on a panel with Billy Bragg, Jarvis Cocker, Don Letts and others, discussing the politicisation of music.

Un-Convention is a global grassroots music event and community that meets physically and virtually to share ideas; discuss and debate cutting edge issues around music, technology and creativity; and facilitates members engagement with their peers.

Un-Convention is not about the business of music. The community is driven by a not for profit initiative that sees opportunity for the grassroots in the changes to the way music is being produced, consumed and sustained.

Passes for the event, which starts on Friday, are £24 and you can find it more about Unconvention #12 by clicking here.

The talk that I’m a panellist at is at Salford Lads Club, Coronation street, 20 Huddart Close, Salford M53RS.

Oh Mr Cameron at the Bold Street Festival

The Liverpool Socialist Singers do a cracking job here of doing Oh Mr Cameron at the Bold Street Festival at the weekend.

The Guardian: That Cameron Song

Everybody is singing that Cameron song!!

This clip is from The Guardian website and shows the Liverpool Socialist Singers singing Oh Mr Cameron.

The clip is over 8 minutes long but it’s an interesting short film, and at the end you get the reward of the fab Liverpool Socialist Singers giving their rendition of Oh Mr Cameron, the song that everyone is singing at the moment!

Look out for Vinny in the clip leading the choir. As you’ll know, Vinny, along with Gabi and I, is part of the radical folk band Rich Mans Ruin who will be playing twice in Liverpool in October.

And don’t forget that you can get a free mp3 download of Oh Mr Cameron performed live by me right here at this website.

BBC Radio 4: Clegg’s Yellow Tories

There’s a great report on BBC Radio 4′s Today programme this morning about the protest outside Lib Dem conference.

Click to listen: Clegg’s Yellow Tories, BBC Radio 4

The Oh Mr Cameron song gets an airing too, so you’ll hear me singing my little heart out for a bit.

Then there’s some fab contributions from individual protestors, a couple of whom, I’m proud to say, are Facebook Friends of mine!

Well said Ali Cooper on the yellow tories quote!
