Attila and David Rovics in Liverpool (Fri)

I’m sure those who like their music with a dose of left politics will be thrilled to hear that Attila The Stockbroker and David Rovics are playing in Liverpool on Friday for just a fiver!

You can get your tickets here.

The gig is at the Bad Format Social Club just off Dale Street. Full details are available from the Rathole Radio website.

Given that the Woody Guthrie Folk Club is on the day before at The Ship & Mitre in Dale Street – get your tickets for that here – and the May Day celebrations throughout the city are on Monday – it promises to start up a radical weekend of music and joyousness.

Named In Preston FM’s Top 3 of 2009

I’m proud and pleasantly surprised to discover that Preston FM has named “Who is Alun Parry?” as number 3 in their New Year countdown of most “interesting things we have learned” during 2009.

There are two sound clips below so give them both a listen.

Paul and Lucy interviewed me earlier this year and the interview, featured on Preston FM today and last week. I speak about music, inspiration, the Working Class Music Festival, and AFC Liverpool.

Paul and Lucy first met me at a benefit for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Find out about this fantastic organisation by clicking here.

The Sophie Lancaster Foundation rightly won the No 1 spot, and I’m interviewed here along with Attila The Stockbroker talking about the foundation.

Roger And Simon Save The Day

It’s fair to say that this has to go down as one of my more eventful journeys to my gig last night in Rawtenstall in Lancashire.

And it’s all thanks to that great practical joker – the sat nav.

I recall very well my times as a union rep in East Lancashire with its narrow roads and 90 degree inclines.

I thought to myself that every time I went to Burnley or Todmorden or Bacup or Rawtenstall that I somehow got lost on a road that was only one car wide and which was vertical.

But sat navs weren’t invented then.

And yet it happened again.

After taking the same funny roundabout several times I ended on the wrong road.

No worries. The sat nav would be a trusty guide.

Turn left it said.

And moments later the car was in a ditch. Hoorah!!

Thanks to Roger and Simon for saving the day by winching it back out again when it looked like the car would never be seen again.

Roger is the one in the video, and Simon is in the car. Great work lads!

Finally got to the gig 5 hours after setting off, but in perfect time as it was only just about to kick off.

Lovely people here, and I really enjoyed my set. A great audience. Attila was ace as ever too. I’m still loving the Swine Flu Rap!!

Off to Cardiff now. See you soon and enjoy the vid.

The Road To Glastonwick – Part One

On Friday 5th June, me and my mate “The Woolly” went on a mad road trip to Glastonwick Festival and back.

The Festival is in Brighton so it was a bit of a bonkers journey. Sixteen hours round trip in fact.

We decided to record the trip to keep us amused. Well be fair – what else can you do when you’re stuck in a car for 16 hours!!

Apols for the video editing. I don’t use Windows. I use Ubuntu Linux. It’s free and more secure than Windows, and it’s open source which I like on principle. (More on that maybe another time).

But video editing suites aren’t the best on Ubuntu so excuse the really poo editing.

If any fellow Linux Ubuntu geeks can point me to some cool video editing software that’d be great.

Be warned though, I’ll probably badger you for a week until I’ve ironed out the glitches :-)

Hope you enjoy part one of my sad effort of a road movie. We had a giggle making it though as you’ll see.

I’ll be posting more in the next couple of days. Watch this space…
