The Limerick Soviet Honoured

I am deeply proud to announce that my song The Limerick Soviet has been requested by the Limerick Council of Trades Unions to be entered into their official archives.

I consider this a huge honour. The Limerick Council of Trades Unions is the very organisation that is the direct descendant of those who formed the Limerick Soviet back in 1919.

I sent off a signed copy to Limerick earlier this week just as they requested.

Like I have said many times, this is the kind of thing that matters to me as a songwriter.

Congrats Alun. Made up for ya I know how much more this sort of thing matters to you than any ‘chart’ success ever would! In my opinion a just reward for highlighting the efforts of a lost revolution upholding the true principles of socialism in the midst of terrony and oppressive ‘foreign’ rule. Sounds very familiar…

Brilliant news Al – well done. This is the recognition that you deserve for such songs that will be forever held in the history of a place or of an event. It is important that such stories are told in song to educate us all about things we might not know about or need reminding about.

it is a great song and well deserving of such an honour. Any song bringing to life such an inspiring and enlightening tale of working class action is worthy of the highest recognition

Alun I am proud to be associated with the credits to your song “The Limerick Soviet”, it is a truly fitting tribute to the selfless acts of ordinary workers in defiance of the occupying military forces,

    Hi Alun,

I got a second hand book about 15 years ago called “Forgotten Revolution” Limerick Soviet 1919 by Liam Cahill, published in 1990. The Soviet was, according to the book, an “unsung” moment in Irish history… not any more!

The book can now be read online.

    Martin
