Liverpool Irish Festival Starts Today

I’ve just been reminded that the Liverpool Irish Festival starts today!

There’s tons of great musical and cultural events taking place from now til the 1st November.

Check out the many offerings at the Irish Festival website and get along to one of the sessions or concerts. There really is a mouthwatering collection of stuff.

The Festival means something special to me because last year’s festival directly inspired one of the tracks that ended up on my latest album.

The song in question is The Limerick Soviet which is about the tumultuous events in the town of Limerick in 1919 when the worker’s council took control of the place from the British Army.

They even printed their own currency!!

I was at a Liverpool Irish Festival event last year when the Limerick Soviet was mentioned just in passing.

I went away and found out more about it, and from that came the song.
