Love Hope & Resistance at The Bluecoat, May 1st

Presenting a brand new, experimental show to mark this year’s May Day, at The Bluecoat, May 1st, 7.30pm.

Featuring music from Alun Parry alongside a narrative that celebrates solidarity and the story of us.

A celebration of solidarity and the human spirit. With an innovative mix of story, spoken word, drama, song and humour.

The music is interspersed with inspirational talks, spoken word pieces, incisive poetry and a dramatic vignette, laced with passion and humour.

Featuring the music of Alun Parry, with the spoken word awesomeness of Alice Colquhoun, Chris Allen, Greg Quiery, Louise Fazackerley and Morag Reid – with a final spoken piece by Alun himself.

Enjoy an uplifting celebration of social struggle.

Leave with your hearts full and your spirits high. In a time when we can clearly see our losses, this show will remind us of our huge gains, and how we won them.

Notes:

Alice Colquhoun is a writer and actress, and a graduate of Liverpool Hope University. She is the co-founder of the rebellious One Per Cent Festival.

Alun Parry is an award winning musician. His latest album was the Liverpool Echo’s Album of the Week. Known as Liverpool’s Woody Guthrie, his shows are filled with humour and “a glorious breadth of lyrical ambition” (R2 Magazine).

Chris Allen is a lecturer in sociology at John Moores University. He is a specialist on the effects of urban capitalism and various resistance movements.

Greg Quiery is a popular local performer known for his sharp wit and humour. He leads walking tours of Liverpool exploring Irish history.

Louise Fazackerley is a professional performance poet and artist-in-education. She is the winner of the Radio 3 Verb New Voices commission.

Morag Reid is a multiple award winning spoken word artist. Passionate, principled and fiery, she is not to be missed.
