My Lefty Desert Island Discs
I was at Bolton Socialist Club the other night for a live audience version of their Lefty Desert Island Discs.
I picked out 8 songs as their island castaway.
So here they are.
San Quentin – Johnny Cash
Which Side Are You On – Billy Bragg
Talking Bout A Revolution – Tracy Chapman
Song Of The Old Communist – Leon Rosselson
Working Class Hero – John Lennon
Common People – Pulp
The Ballad of Accounting – Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger
9 to 5 – Dolly Parton
It was so hard to restrict it to just 8 songs. But what do you think?

Hi Alun,
Interesting great choices. I thought you might have had a Tom Robinson track, Power in the Darkness awakened my left wing politics in the 70s. Saw him at the Empire and it ended in nearly a riot.

1. Legal/Illegal – Ewan McColl
2. Revolution – The Beatles
3. The World Turned Upside Down – Dick Gaughan

5. The Internationale – Sung by your good self – Not that terrible Billy Bragg version
6. The Banks Are Made of Marble – Pete Seeger

8. Gonna Be An Engineer – Peggy Seeger
My book would be Cwmardy by Lewis Jones.

Hi All
I was there it was such a good night and in-between each song we got to ask questions and debate, which made it very interesting and entertaining.
Thank you so much for honouring us with your presence
