Workers Memorial Day – Run Patsy Run
[audio: PARRYWS02.mp3]It was Workers Memorial Day yesterday and, appropriately, someone at The Phil last night asked what the story was behind my song Run Patsy Run (above).
I wrote it after reading this speech from a woman named Margaret O’Sullivan on the LabourNet website.
Patsy, from the song, was Margaret’s father.
It is only short but is one of the most moving speeches you can read and I’d urge you to do just that.
Whenever I think of Wembley now, I always think of a carpenter named Patrick O’Sullivan.
I wrote the song so that maybe others would do the same.
I won’t say anymore. Margaret’s words say it better than I ever could.
